What is ISO 45001
With an ISO 45001 certificate for a management system for healthy and safe working, formerly an occupational health and safety management system, an organization shows that all the requirements of the standard are met; therefore, the certificate is a valuable means of communication. The presence of an ISO 45001 certificate may be a prerequisite when purchasing or tendering for certain services. More and more clients are accepting OHSAS 18001 (which was revised in 2013 as an ISO standard with the familiar HLS structure) instead of the VCA certificate. Because the ISO 45001 standard also has a number of additional requirements, for example for the culture within the organization, the acceptance of the ISO 45001 certificate among clients is high.
Every year, 2.3 million people die worldwide as a result of work-related accidents or illnesses. Accidents in work situations and unsafe working conditions can be reduced or even prevented when robust and effective Occupational Health Management Systems are implemented.
Fatal workplace accidents are the most prominent, but the majority of work-related deaths are the cause of ill health and illnesses caused by prolonged exposure to risks and hazardous substances. The ILO estimates that the direct and indirect costs of work-related illnesses amount to approximately 4 percent of the gross national product, or 2.8 trillion dollars a year worldwide. That is why every organization should take a proactive approach to work-related health and safety. ISO 45001 provides an excellent framework for this.
For whom?
Employee health and safety, also known as occupational health and safety aspects, are an issue in every organization. A management system is tailored to an organization. All types of organizations, large or small, profit or non-profit, can benefit from using them. For smaller organizations with a limited number of hazards and risks when it comes to working healthily and safely, the management system will be simple. The ISO 45001 standard sets the frameworks, which each organization decides for themselves. The example of a G&VW management system for a small transport company shows what a management system then looks like. The certificate database shows that different types of organizations have an OHSAS 18001 or ISO 45001 certificate.

Management System
Why should you work with an online digital Management System?
Many organizations have already switched from a âhandbook in the closetâ to an environment such as SharePoint or a Document Management System to also be able to view their documentation remotely.
But then these questions and sources of stress linger:
- How do I get insight into all workplace inspections carried out?
- What outstanding measures are still there?
- Who is responsible for which outstanding actions?
- How do I safeguard and share new processes in the organization?
- How do I really understand which processes need to be tackled structurally differently?
- How do I inform and convince my colleagues of the usefulness of certain processes?
- How do I make it easier for everyone to work according to all our processes?
