What is HKZ?
The testing of an institution's quality system by an external certifying body, based on the pre-established HKZ standards, is called HKZ certification. This certifying institution is accredited by the Accreditation Council (RvA) and is subject to strict rules.
This review should be as objective as possible and should therefore be carried out by an independent person. For example, a certifier (or auditor) may not play an advisory role in the organization or institution that applied for certification. In practice, the audit will also not be carried out by one person, but will involve two people:
- The lead auditor: he or she is in charge of the entire audit process;
- Subject matter expert: he or she is the one with the most substantive knowledge.
In this way, a correct audit takes place that takes into account the situation within the organization. The duration of the audit depends on a number of factors, including the size and complexity of the organization. In some cases, an audit can therefore take a few days.
In the event of a successful audit, which means that the organization meets the set requirements, the certifying institution will issue an HKZ certificate. This certificate has a limited validity of three years, and an interim review is also a mandatory part. Once the three-year period has expired, a recertification can be requested.
